No other national election has as much global impact as that of the United States of America, and no other American election has generated as much uncertainty as that of Donald J Trump. The global order that has dominated over the last 50 years is now potentially under threat from the mercurial and unorthodox rhetoric of the incoming Trump Administration.

Established US allies like Australia, the European Union and Japan are now reconsidering their support for the policies being broadcast from Trump Tower and reassessing their regional situation in the context of likely increased US isolationism.

Professor Gordon Flake, CEO of the Perth USAsia Centre, sat down with Flavia Zimmerman of AIIA for WA to discuss the potential consequences of Trump’s presidency for Australia and the region, the president-elect’s ability to take advantage of the media, Russia’s strategic interests, the global populist trend and much more in the following podcast and video interview.
