Rohingya

This episode of AIIA VIC’s Dyason House podcast features former Ambassador to Myanmar Christopher Lamb. It discusses the history of the people known as Rohingya and the realities of the current refugee crisis.

The Rohingya people are a population living on the Western Coast of the Bay of Bangal. There have been waves of suppression and discrimination against these people in different times of history and they are the subject of Myanmar’s current refugee crisis. The State Councillor, Aung San Suu Kyi, faces a democratic bulwark when it comes to speaking out on the Rohingya situation.

Christopher Lamb is former Australian Ambassador to Myanmar with a career spanning over 30 years. He holds the post of Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and heads a number of advisory boards including the Red Cross and the Australian Myanmar Institute.

Interviewed by Peter Bateman.
