AIIA Welcomes Seven Fellows for 2025

The Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of seven distinguished Australians as 2025 AIIA Fellows. The Fellows award, established in 2008 to mark the Institute’s 75th anniversary, recognises individuals with a strong connection to Australia who have achieved exceptional distinction in, and made a significant contribution to, international affairs.

Fellows are nominated by AIIA members and selected by an independent committee comprising members of the National Executive and existing Fellows.

Hon Simon Birmingham
For his leadership in advancing Australia’s foreign, trade, and economic diplomacy.

Professor Megan Davis AC
For her global advocacy on Indigenous rights and contributions to international law and governance.

Professor Paul Dibb AM
For shaping Australia’s strategic and defence policy through decades of influential analysis and public service.

Professor Toni Erskine
For her internationally recognised scholarship on ethics, responsibility, and global governance.

Professor Aurelia George Mulgan
For her extensive contributions to understanding Japanese politics and Australia–Japan relations.

Bruce Miller AO
For enhancing Australia’s relationship with Japan through distinguished diplomatic service.

Hon Lisa Singh
For strengthening Australia’s engagement and knowledge on India.

The AIIA congratulates the 2025 Fellows and acknowledges their exceptional contributions to Australia’s role in the world. Their achievements reflect the Institute’s mission to promote understanding of international issues and support informed engagement in global affairs.
