Study tours and research opportunities
A cross-national network on disaster resilience
The Indo-Pacific Cooperation Network is a unique, fully-funded cross-national network established by the AIIA and the Japan Foundation. In 2023 and 2024, 15 emerging leaders in their field were selected from more than 12 countries in both years to examine disaster resilience policies and initiatives through study tours to Japan, Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand. Explore the world
The AIIA National Office and branches offer both funded and self-funded study tours to various locations throughout the world. Tour destinations in the past have included China, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Taiwan, and the Persian Gulf. These tours are usually for AIIA members or members are given priority. Support for research and projects in Asia
In 2013, Euan Crone, a member of AIIA Victoria who participated in the AIIA Victoria 2013 study tour of Myanmar and 2012 tour of China, decided to establish a charitable endowment fund giving grants up to $5,000 per person to deepen awareness of Asia among young Australians.
Scholarships are open to young Australian residents up to the age of 35 who are members of the AIIA in any Australian state or territory at the time of application or who are resident in an Australian territory that does not have an AIIA branch.

Support for an internship in Europe
The Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) and the Australian Branch of the International Law Association (ILA (AB)) are pleased to present the Peter Nygh Hague Conference Internship. The award will support a post – graduate student or graduate of an Australian law school to undertake an internship with The Hague Conference on Private International Law (The Hague Conference) in the Netherlands by providing funds to cover the cost of travel to the Netherlands and a contribution towards living expenses.

Take part in forums in Australia and overseas
The AIIA partners with other organisations and sponsors to provide travel for AIIA members to policy forums and conferences in Australia and overseas. Recent examples include sending representatives to the Asialink ISIS Malaysia Australia New Zealand ISIS Malaysia Dialogue in Kuala Lumpur and bringing AIIA members from every Australian state and territory to Sydney for an event sponsored by the Korea Foundation on the Indo-Pacific. keep an eye on AIIA Around Australia, the weekly AIIA email newsletter for members and the news section of our homepage for details.
