The AIIA was delighted to organise a diplomatic masterclass as part of the Australia Indonesia Centre’s Australian-Indonesian Leadership Program. The program provides an opportunity for emerging Australian and Indonesian leaders to network and discuss current issues between Australia and Indonesia. For a report of the program and participants see here.

The AIIA organised a diplomatic masterclass, generously hosted by PwC, involving Bill Farmer AO, John McCarthy AO FAIIA and the Hon Penny Wensley AC FAIIA. The discussion provided insights on how to be an effective diplomat, conduct successful multilateral and bilateral negotiations and further economic diplomacy between Australia and Indonesia.

Peter Simojoki from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade moderated the discussion panel with introductory remarks by AIIA ACT Branch Vice-President Miles Kupa and Pak Agung Cahaya Sumirat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Indonesia. After the discussion, table captains led discussion on the topics covered in the masterclass. The AIIA was pleased to be able to host a successful event where future leaders of Australia and Indonesia were able to learn from seasoned diplomats as well as network and build professional relationships that would benefit the broader Australia-Indonesia relationship.
