Within such an environment, it is crucial that Australians in business, government, and other positions of responsibility have accurate knowledge and a sophisticated understanding of shifts occuring in international affairs. It is also important that there is a constituency in Australia actively engaged in a national conversation on Australia’s place in the world.
Founded in 1924, and organising around 160 events per year, the Australian Institute of International Affairs is the only institution dedicated to supporting a national conversation on international developments with branches in every state and territory in Australia. It also has an office in Canberra that alongside its open events has long run bespoke roundtables and research projects in close contact with government partners and the diplomatic community.
