Gabrielle Williams MP is a PhD Candidate at the Gender, Peace and Security Centre at Monash University.  Her doctoral thesis will examine the agency and impact of women as supporters of the Republican movement in Ireland between 1969-1998, with a view to rendering more visible the often invisible roles of women in insurgency movements.

Gabrielle was elected to the Victorian Parliament in 2014 and currently serves as the Minister for Women, Prevention of Family Violence and Aboriginal Affairs. In these roles she has overseen the introduction and implementation of the nation’s first Gender Equality Act and a Gender Responsive Budgeting Unit within the department of Treasury. She has also overseen significant family violence system reform, and lead work on Treaty and Truth Telling in partnership with Victoria’s First Nations communities.

She holds a Bachelor of Law/Arts (hons) from Monash University.
