Joanne Wallis is Professor of International Security, Director of the Stretton Institute for Public Policy, and Academic Lead (Students) in the School of Society and Culture at Adelaide University. She is also a Senior Nonresident Fellow of the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
Joanne is a leading academic voice within the Australian strategic and foreign affairs policy community. She is the author or editor of eleven books, including Neighbours: Australia and the Pacific (La Trobe UP 2026, with Jack Corbett), Girt by Sea: Re-imagining Australia’s Security (La Trobe UP 2024 with Bec Strating), Pacific Power? Australia’s Strategy in the Pacific Islands (MUP 2017), and Constitution making during State building (CUP 2014).
Joanne has led projects funded by Defence, the Defence Science and Technology Group, and the Australian Research Council worth more than $6.2M analysing security cooperation, statecraft, regional perspectives, and social networks across the Pacific.
