What We Do

A year after the Queensland Institute of International Affairs was founded as a branch of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in 1932, the organisation was federalised under the Australian Institute of International Affairs. And although the political landscape has changed much throughout the years, our mission remains the same.

As one of several state bodies, the Australian Institute of International Affairs Queensland endeavours to provide a platform for open discussion and debate on all matters of foreign policy and international relations. Our organisation prides itself on creating a space for diverse perspectives, wishing to only further peoples knowledge and understanding.

To achieve this, we invite a number of world-class speakers, from distinguished academics to seasoned diplomats, who all speak on a range of topics on international affairs in Australia. Generally, these events will take place on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month and will be published on our website and social media platforms well in advance.

If you are interested in attending, all events are free to members unless otherwise noted. For those who are not members, our events cost $15 or $10 for students. Otherwise, click here and register for a membership today, allowing you to be part of a community of internationally minded people here in Queensland!

The Patron of the AIIA Queensland is His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC QC, the former Governor of Queensland from 2014 to 2021.
