Analyst Positions Available

The Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) works to improve the quality of policy and policy-making on defence and national security issues. ASPI seeks to provide an alternate and contestable source of policy advice on defence and strategic issues, operating in an independent and non-partisan manner.

ASPI is seeking to appoint a number of Analysts, with experience in one (or more) of the following areas:
  • Counter Terrorism
  • Border Security
  • Defence and Strategy
  • Financial Crime

 

This is an excellent opportunity to utilise your knowledge and experience to work with a highly regarded think tank. Analysts are required to:
  • support the drafting of research papers, policy briefs, online blog items by providing research assistance to senior ASPI staff.
  • conduct qualitative and quantitative research on specific topics for publication
  • coordinate and develop national and international dialogues
  • collaborate, manage and interact with external stakeholders and
  • represent ASPI in meetings, seminars and conferences as required
To be successful for one of the positions you will need to have the following skills and experience:
  • high quality work and/or research experience, with proven expertise in one or more of the identified areas
  • appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline with strong academic achievement and research experience
  • demonstrated ability to conduct and produce original research, and contribute collaboratively to other reports for publication
  • superior writing, editing and analytical skills
  • ability to work with limited direction to initiate, set priorities and manage different aspects of a research project simultaneously.

ASPI is seeking to employ Analysts at both a senior and more junior level. The decision about the number and level of appointments for the position will depend on the candidates applying for the positions. Secondment opportunities will be considered. The salary expectation for the positions could range from $60-$125,000 reflecting previous experience, skills and academic qualifications.
