Dr Sarah A. Son
Dr Sarah A. Son is a Senior Lecturer in Korean Studies at the University of Sheffield in the UK and Director of Sheffield’s Centre for Korean Studies. Prior to joining Sheffield, she spent a number of years as Research Director of a South Korean NGO focused on documenting the human rights situation in North Korea. Her research focusses on human rights documentation methods, human rights activism, inter-Korean relations, identity, memory, accountability and the representation of North Korea in South Korean popular culture. She has worked extensively with external parties including the United Nations, the All Party Parliamentary Group for North Korea and both state and non-state actors concerned with North Korea and the affairs of North Korean escapees.
