Windows to the World: The World at your Doorstep

Published 29 May 2015

The Australian Institute of International Affairs is delighted to join the ACT Government to bring back the Windows to the World program of Embassy and High Commission open days in September and October 2015.

This will be the second Windows to the World program in Canberra.

The inaugural Windows to the World program in 2013 was a wonderful success, with around 35,000 participants involved in the four-weekend program. Windows to the World will now be a biennial event.

The program will again run during the four weekends of Floriade starting on the 19th and 20th of September, and concluding on the 10th and 11th of October. Over 40 missions are on board, with more expected to join the program.

Some missions will offer open days where people can visit the grounds, while others will offer smaller tours and experiences, some of which will need to be booked.

The AIIA will work with the ACT Government to coordinate activities with the diplomatic corps (including online bookings for tours) and ensure the success of the program. The ACT Government will again manage the coordination of marketing and promotion of the program. As a new feature this year, a mission expo is being planned to accommodate other missions.

Embassies and High Commissions already committed to the program include the Philippines, United States of America, Greece, the Netherlands, the Delegation of the European Union, Algeria, Botswana, Mongolia, Malaysia and Thailand.

Bookings are expected to open via the AIIA website www.internationalaffairs.org.au in September.

The program in 2015 is possible due to the generosity of significant corporate sponsorship from Icon Water.
