Senator the Hon Marise Payne (AIIA National Conference 2018)

The Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) will bring together several of Australia’s most prominent experts in foreign affairs for its 2019 National Conference on Monday 14 October at Hotel Realm, Canberra.

The AIIA’s annual National Conference is considered one of the country’s most insightful events regarding international affairs on the national calendar. The one-day conference will provide the public with an opportunity to hear from and engage with distinguished professionals across four sessions examining new developments in international affairs and Australia’s place in a changing world.

The 2019 National Conference will focus on the theme of ‘New Agendas for a New Era.’ Following a keynote session, including an address from Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator the Hon Penny Wong, Australia’s leading international affairs experts will present on three panels: A New Cold War?; New Technology; and The Health of the Planet.

The AIIA also works in partnership with industry practitioners and organisations in order to develop and support the future generation of leaders in international affairs.

On Sunday 13 October, prior to the National Conference, The AIIA is offering young professionals and tertiary students between the ages of 18 and 40 access to a series of four masterclasses with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. These masterclasses will enable aspiring students a chance to network and refine their knowledge on areas such as intelligence, foreign and defence policy, and foreign correspondence.

The AIIA’s National Conference brings some of the most intriguing and complex international issues to the forefront of discussion and is an unmissable opportunity to learn more about Australia and its relationship with the world.
