AIIAV Study Tour to Timor-Leste

Published 31 Aug 2014
Timorese in traditional dress take part in a ceremony for the International Day of Peace, celebrated annually 21 September. The ceremony also marked the resumption of policing responsibilities in the district of Alieu by the Polícia Nacional de Timor-Leste (PNTL), which took over from UN Police forces.
We are pleased to announce the details of our upcoming Study Tour to Timor-Leste, organised by Australian Institute of International Affairs Victoria (AIIAV).

FRIDAY 24TH OCTOBER 2014 9:00AM TO
TUESDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2014 9:00AM

The tour will be lead by AIIAV Treasurer Peter McMullin who is also adviser to the Foreign Minister of Timor-Leste.  Peter regularly visits Timor-Leste, and during these visits has mentored the establishment of Timor-Leste’s first Chamber of Commerce.  Peter is a Melbourne based lawyer and is a director of the Australasian Dispute Resolution Centre.

The AIIAV will be working with Timor Adventures, based in Dili, as our travel agents for the tour.

The tour begins in Dili (24-25 October), travelling to Baucau, Tutuala/Jaco Island, Maubisse, Balibo, Atauro and completing the journey in Dili.

The study tour has been designed to engage participants in a comprehensive programme of activities ensuring first hand, in depth insights into Timor-Leste’s political history, culture and economy.  Briefings will include meetings with the nation’s leaders and representatives of many not-for-profit organisations that have contributed to the nation’s development.

Please see the AIIAV page for details on booking, costs, itinerary, inclusions and timelines.
