John Robbins

John Robbins is a Project Officer in support of the AIIA National Office. He was National Deputy Director of the AIIA from April 2009 to December 2014. Prior to joining the AIIA, he had a lengthy Defence career in the Australian Army from 1960 to 1994, followed by Defence-related project management and consulting work from 1995 to 2008.

John was Head of Australian Defence Staff and Defence Adviser in Papua New Guinea from 1983 to 1987 in the Australian High Commission Port Moresby; and Military Attaché to the USA and Canada from 1990 to 1993, based in the Australian Embassy, Washington DC. Other senior appointments included Director of Force Development Policy in Headquarters Australian Defence Force 1987-90 and Director-General Intelligence Operations in the Defence Intelligence Organisation 1993-94.

On leaving the Defence Force in 1995, John worked as a senior consultant for ADI (now Thales) and Mercadier from 1995 to 2002. From 2002 to 2008, he was a project manager/consultant in Land Development Branch of Capability Development Group, Department of Defence.
